P1 AquaX

AquaX is the fastest growing personal watercraft championship in the world. Its rapid growth is owed to a simple, yet challenging race format that appeals to today’s personal watercraft users.

This year the program will include the unveiling of a professional level race series and expansion of two further championships in the Great Lakes region of the USA and in Southeast Asia.

Leading international personal watercraft riders will be heading to Florida’s east coast this week for the opening round of the P1 AquaX USA Championship.

AquaX racing is returning this weekend (April 13-14) for the 6th Annual Daytona Beach Grand Prix that will see more than 80 riders from ten countries compete at speeds of up to 80mph over two days outside the Hard Rock Hotel. Androse Bell, General Manager of the Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach said: “We are thrilled to be the host hotel for the P1 AquaX Grand Prix. The energy and excitement this type of event brings our destination is a perfect match for the Hard Rock brand and we couldn’t be happier to have the riders, officials and safety crew centre stage here to launch their season.”

Fans will be able to meet the riders and view the powerful skis up close at the P1 race centre on the beach. Global Head of P1 AquaX racing, Lisa Barsby explains: “ This is the perfect venue to kick off our 13-event international season that will include six race weekends in the United States. When we launched AquaX here in Daytona Beach in 2013 just seven riders competed and this week we will be welcoming over 80 from around the world – that’s testament to the growth of AquaX as a sport and the impact it brings to the local area.”

Speaking from the P1 race headquarters in Orlando, its Chief Executive Azam Rangoonwala added: “Daytona Beach has become one of the world’s leading personal watercraft race venues and the Grand Prix – which will be broadcast on sports television networks in more than 150 countries, including FOX Sports in Florida - has attracted competitors from as far afield as Australia, Indonesia , Morocco, Italy and the United Kingdom. Crisscrossing the Atlantic this year to compete in the USA series will be 4-times UK AquaX champion Phil Pope who is looking forward to his first experience of racing in Daytona Beach: “I’ve heard that it’s usually pretty rough conditions. The first round of the championship will be a learning curve for me having not ridden the new FX, but I know the RIVA Yamaha will be good. I’ll have my RIVA Racing team-mate Brian Baldwin alongside me on the start line and we’re aiming to be a serious force this season.”

Kate Holcomb, Director of Communications with, Daytona Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau said: “We are very excited that P1 AquaX is kicking off its 2019 race series here. As a destination, Daytona Beach is famous for its iconic beaches, beautiful Atlantic shoreline and racing history. We welcome these world class riders and look forward to some thrilling competition.”

For many of the riders Daytona Beach is their favourite place to race and regarded as one of the best venues on the circuit. Eric Francis from West Palm Beach is the No. 1 ranked AquaX racer in the world and he can’t wait to take on the testing ocean waters of Daytona Beach: “I’m excited for this weekend as it always proves to have challenging surf conditions. I will resume my great battles with Chris MacClugage and Brian Baldwin, and we will continue to push ourselves to new limits.”

This weekend’s event is free to the public with high-speed action on the water from 11.30am each day.
