AquaX is the fastest growing personal watercraft championship in the world. Its rapid growth is owed to a simple, yet challenging race format that appeals to todays personal watercraft users.
This year the program will include the unveiling of a professional level race series and expansion of two further championships in the Great Lakes region of the USA and in Southeast Asia.

In January Powerboat P1, the world’s leading marine motorsport brand, unveiled an extensive race programme for 2019 that will see the international promoter stage its opening event in Daytona Beach on the weekend of 13-14 April. The high-speed action will feature personal watercraft racing with the Daytona Beach Grand Prix being the opening round of the P1 AquaX USA Championship.
More than 100 professional and amateur riders from around the world will compete at speeds of up to 80mph in the two-day, free-to-watch event outside the Daytona Beach Hard Rock Hotel Announcing the return of AquaX racing to Daytona Beach, P1 USA Championship Manager Michelle Petro explained: “This is the perfect venue to kick off our 13-event international season that will comprise six race weekends in the United States, four in countries across Western Europe and a UK series with three rounds in England and Wales. When we launched P1 AquaX in the USA in 2013 just seven riders competed in Daytona Beach and in April we will be welcoming over 100 – that’s testament to the growth of AquaX as a sport and the impact it brings to the local area.”
Kate Holcomb, Director of Communications with Daytona Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau, said: “We are very excited that P1 AquaX is kicking off its 2019 race series here. As a destination, Daytona Beach is famous for its iconic beaches, beautiful Atlantic shoreline and racing history. We welcome these world class riders and look forward to some thrilling competition.”
Eric Francis from West Palm Beach is the No. 1 ranked AquaX racer in the world and he can’t wait to take on the testing ocean waters of Daytona Beach: “I’m excited for Daytona as it always proves to have challenging surf conditions. I will resume my great battles with Chris MacClugage and Brian Baldwin, and we will continue to push ourselves to new limits.”
After Daytona the Pro riders will move to the golden, sandy beaches of St. Pete/Clearwater on the West Coast of Florida before heading north for the third round to race in front of an expected crowd of more than 100,000 spectators on the testing waters of Lake Michigan. The championship will then return to Florida for the final two rounds. Pensacola is a new name on the P1 AquaX race calendar, and Fort Lauderdale will host the climax to the season in October for a third successive year. “It’s going to be seven months of fierce, fast and hugely competitive sport and entertainment” added Petro.
P1’s Sports & Operations Director, Lisa Barsby explained: “In the eight years since its launch, AquaX has grown significantly and achieved its goal of staging a world championship in December 2017. It’s been a natural a natural progression from the opening race season in the UK in 2011 to the series expanding to the USA two years later and then into mainland Europe in 2017. The rapidly increasing number of riders, partners and fans has been tremendous and our close relationship with the leading manufacturers has added considerably to the legitimacy of our series. We attract some of the best professional riders in the world as well as leading amateurs to our championships in the USA, Europe and UK, and we are sure to get a great response to the season opener in Daytona Beach.”
