AquaX is the fastest growing personal watercraft championship in the world. Its rapid growth is owed to a simple, yet challenging race format that appeals to today’s personal watercraft users.

This year the program will include the unveiling of a professional level race series and expansion of two further championships in the Great Lakes region of the USA and in Southeast Asia.

Seven Mile Beach to host finale of P1 AquaX Cayman Islands National Tour

  • 2022 National Tour includes two classes of P1 AquaX racing
  • Three-round race series features two venues on Grand Cayman
  • Two riders to qualify for the P1 AquaX Bahamas World Championship

This new partnership is a significant achievement for motorsports in the Cayman Islands. We lined up a superb season at our two venues and we know that personal watercraft racing has a bright future in Cayman. We’ve gradually moved our racing format from closed course to offshore endurance, and this final round of the National Tour will see the riders competing in front of a huge crowd at the Public Beach at one of the world’s most famous beaches. We are looking at this as a test for potentially staging bigger AquaX events at Seven Mile Beach in the future.

The countdown is underway to the final round of this year’s P1 AquaX Cayman Islands National Tour on Sunday, 18 September when around 25 riders will compete at Seven Mile Beach just north of George Town.

P1 AquaX, the international personal watercraft racing promoter, and the Cayman Islands Watercraft Association (CIWA) have partnered this season to stage a three-round race series on Grand Cayman that kicked off at the end of May. The National Tour features P1 AquaX Pro and Am Endurance classes with events at South Sound Beach at the southwestern tip of the island and Seven Mile Beach.

Launched in the UK in 2011 and then in the United States two years later as part of the Powerboat P1 family of marine motorsport brands, P1 AquaX has introduced qualifying series to provide riders in regions not currently hosting AquaX events with the opportunity to qualify for its World Championship. CIWA provides the opportunity for personal watercraft riders to compete both locally and internationally, and the new partnership with P1 AquaX enables one Pro rider and one Am racer in this year’s National Tour to qualify for the AquaX World Championship in the Bahamas in November when the iconic Atlantis Paradise Island resort will host the three-day event.

CIWA President Chris Bodden says: “This new partnership is a significant achievement for motorsports in the Cayman Islands. We are looking at this as a test for potentially staging bigger AquaX events at Seven Mile Beach in the future.”

Speaking from P1 AquaX’s race center in Orlando, P1 USA Championship Manager Michelle Petro commented: “We are delighted that the Cayman Islands has become part of our international schedule and we look forward to welcoming two riders from the National Tour to our Bahamas World Championship in Nassau in early November.”

The Cayman Islands is now ‘open to all’ following the recent announcement by its Department of Tourism of a significant update to its Covid-19 Government protocols, officially eliminating all testing, vaccination and registration requirements for both inbound and departing passengers.

P1 AquaX in brief

Part of the P1 family of marine motorsport brands, P1 AquaX was launched in the UK in 2011 and features the best riders and the fastest off-the-shelf watercraft with speeds in excess of 75mph. The growth of the series is owed to a simple, accessible yet challenging race format that appeals to today’s personal watercraft users. The five-venue 2022 USA national championship has attracted riders from ten countries and the season will climax with the P1 AquaX World Championship in The Bahamas in November.

CIWA in brief

CIWA is the governing body and primary organizer of pwc racing in the Cayman Islands. CIWA was formed in 2009-2010 by the coming together of the various race teams in Cayman to create one central body, registered with and recognized by the Cayman Islands Government. This was done to ensure safe, enjoyable and high quality pwc racing events which CIWA has done and will continue to do. CIWA has also worked to support its riders develop and compete internationally and this partnership will allow us to further achieve that goal.

About Seven Mile Beach

Situated on Grand Cayman’s west shore about a 10-minute drive from the cruise ship port in George Town, the gorgeous, clear waters and coral sands of Seven Mile Beach lure visitors from around the world. The expansive waterfront is open to the public, making it possible to walk the full length of the shore. Despite its name, it is only six miles long and is the largest and most popular beach in the Cayman Islands. There are some good snorkel spots along the Beach and also parasailing, beach-side bars and restaurants, and it’s the perfect place to work on your tan and watch the waves roll in.
