P1 AquaX

AquaX is the fastest growing personal watercraft championship in the world. Its rapid growth is owed to a simple, yet challenging race format that appeals to today’s personal watercraft users.

This year the program will include the unveiling of a professional level race series and expansion of two further championships in the Great Lakes region of the USA and in Southeast Asia.

Michigan City welcomes the AquaX race series

Outstanding locations and host venues contribute enormously to our event offering, with the focus on raising the profile of the venue, attracting visitors, encouraging local involvement and boosting the local economy,. It’s hard to believe that you are looking at a lake and not an ocean, and the variability of the winds can quickly produce unpredictable big water conditions that pose a real challenge to the AquaX riders.

Back-to-back race events see the SBT P1 AquaX series head north to Indiana this weekend after last weekend’s racing in Sarasota on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Hosting round 3 of the championship is Michigan City, about 50 miles east of Chicago on the southern shore of Lake Michigan, one of North America’s five Great Lakes with an enormous shoreline that stretches across parts of Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. The Great Lakes is one the biggest markets for personal watercraft. The race site is Washington Park, which attracts more than 500 events annually and some 2 million visitors.

“Outstanding locations and host venues contribute enormously to our event offering, with the focus on raising the profile of the venue, attracting visitors, encouraging local involvement and boosting the local economy,” explains P1 USA Championship Manager Michelle Petro. “It’s hard to believe that you are looking at a lake and not an ocean, and the variability of the winds can quickly produce unpredictable big water conditions that pose a real challenge to the AquaX riders.”

An impressive field of Pro Enduro racers will take to the water tomorrow morning (Saturday) with Erminio Iantosca currently leading the championship as he defends his P1 AquaX national title. Young Tory Snyder has performed consistently in the earlier rounds to confirm that he is a serious contender to become champion. Jimmy Wilson and Deven Farthing, in his debut AquaX season, are two other names to follow this weekend along with Deven’s father, Dustin.

Michigan City is a favorite venue of mine, the people are welcoming, and the venue could not be better. I am excited to be collaborating with Brad and Jaymi Bohat. I’ve heard they put on amazing events and we are looking forward to delivering a weekend of high-speed, action-packed racing on Lake Michigan.

In the Amateur class there are a number of new faces in the field of 18, with Joe Johnson, Enrique Chia and Jason Williams likely to make the headlines this weekend. The AM 200 class features another impressive young gun, Sam Nehme, who has already built up a 55-point lead.

P1 AquaX has invited the Great Lakes Watercross, closed course racing promoters, to join the SBT P1 AquaX Northern Series and run some closed course races. "Michigan City is a favorite venue of mine, the people are welcoming, and the venue could not be better," said Petro, "I am excited to be collaborating with Brad and Jaymi Bohat. I’ve heard they put on amazing events and we are looking forward to delivering a weekend of high-speed, action-packed racing on Lake Michigan."

Racing starts at 10.00am on both Saturday and Sunday and can be viewed from the beaches along Washington Park.
