P1 AquaX

AquaX is the fastest growing personal watercraft championship in the world. Its rapid growth is owed to a simple, yet challenging race format that appeals to today’s personal watercraft users.

This year the program will include the unveiling of a professional level race series and expansion of two further championships in the Great Lakes region of the USA and in Southeast Asia.

Jet ski racing returns to Tor Bay this weekend (July 13/14) for two days of fast, furious and free to watch action as close on forty riders compete for national honours at Beacon Quay. The UK series, presented by Experience Kissimmee Florida, kicked off last month in Colwyn Bay and spectators around Haldon Pier will be treated to some tense and dramatic competition in the 15 races featuring both Endurance and Sprint classes.

Global Head of P1 AquaX, Lisa Barsby, herself a former world champion jet skier, said: “Tor Bay is an outstanding event arena, with its superb sea views and busy harbour creating a great atmosphere for both racers and spectators. As on previous occasions here, we hope to see crowds lining the harbour wall to enjoy the second round of the P1 AquaX UK Championship.”

Deputy Harbour Master, Nick Burns, commented: “Tor Bay Harbour Authority is pleased to welcome back the national championship to Torquay. It’s an exciting opportunity to watch the high-speed racing close up from Haldon Pier. We wish all the competitors the best of luck and hope to see some local riders on the podium on Sunday afternoon as in previous years.”

P1’s extensive 2019 race calendar, which sees the international marine motorsport promoter staging more than twenty events on three continents from April through to November, includes some of Britain’s leading professional and amateur jet ski riders competing in England and Wales. “We launched P1 AquaX here in the UK in 2011 and have now established successful race series in the United States and mainland Europe” explains Barsby. “Partnerships are at the heart of our business and we enjoy working with Tor Bay Harbour and the local community to bring our AquaX racing to Beacon Quay.”

Two British riders who feature in the top 10 in the recently announced world rankings will be in action this weekend. Multiple UK champion Phil Pope from Derbyshire will be looking to tighten his grip on the 2019 Pro Enduro title, where he will face serious competition from 29-year-old Joe Harvey from Wolverhampton who can expect lots of local support. “I spend a lot of time in Torquay and it’s where I do my AquaX training” says Joe. “I’ve been coming here and getting out on the water since I was a young boy and I know that the conditions in the bay can be tricky, especially when there’s an easterly wind that can produce big swells.”

In Am 300 class Welshman James Roberts secured his first win in Colwyn Bay and will be looking to repeat his success in Torquay along side veteran and former AquaX Champion Dave Lee in the AM200.

In the Pro Sprint division, the experienced Simon Gill from Bristol started the season in North Wales where he left off last year with an impressive performance, but he can expect to come under pressure from Mollie Fearn and Harry Robinson.

Harry Rickaby's first out in the AquaX Sprint SE earned him the lead in the Championship after 4 victories over Elliot Cable and youngster Bailey Gibson, and junior star, Jack Wells leads the Am Sprint class.

The race schedule will include the Yamaha EX/EXR Cup, a new programme this season devised by Yamaha Europe and P1 AquaX to attract Yamaha EX and EXR owners to try their hand at competitive racing through an inexpensive route. Yamaha Ex/EXR CUP

Racing will start at 12.30pm on Saturday and at 12.00pm on Sunday, and full details can be found at P1 AquaX.com Torquay events page
