P1 AquaX

AquaX is the fastest growing personal watercraft championship in the world. Its rapid growth is owed to a simple, yet challenging race format that appeals to today’s personal watercraft users.

This year the program will include the unveiling of a professional level race series and expansion of two further championships in the Great Lakes region of the USA and in Southeast Asia.

The P1 AquaX EuroTour gets underway in south eastern France this weekend (May 4-5) with the announcement that Experience Kissimmee, the leading travel and tourism authority in Central Florida, will again be the title sponsor of the European series. This year the sponsorship will also include the UK championship with racing in England and Wales.

Situated in the Provence Alpes Cote d’Azur region on the Mediterranean Coast, La Seyne-sur-Mer will this weekend host the first of four events on the EuroTour calendar, with Ostend (Belgium), Cavalaire-sur-Mer (France) and Port Balis (Spain) making up the 2019 schedule which will run through to October. This will be a return for the AquaX riders to Les Sablettes Beach, which receives rave reviews on TripAdvisor. “It’s the perfect venue to stage the European season opener” says Lisa Barsby, Global Head of P1 AquaX. “It boasts a superb, sandy beach, crystal blue water, wonderful views and Mediterranean sunshine, with the city of Toulon just a short ferry ride away across the bay.”

This opening round will feature Pro and Am Enduro racing and see the launch of the new ,Yamaha EX/EXR Cup which extends the partnership between Yamaha and P1 AquaX from the United States to Europe. The standalone competition will run within the P1 AquaX and Jetcross championships at race events in Western Europe and the United Kingdom, and be open to the owners of EX and EXR WaveRunners purchased this year through the authorised Yamaha WaveRunner dealer network. Each event in the Yamaha series will operate as a separate Cup competition with trophies being presented on the final day of the race weekend. “This new partnership is very much in line with our vision for AquaX in that it directly connects the sport with watercraft manufacturers which adds to the legitimacy of our series” explains Lisa Barsby.

A total of around 35 professional and amateur endurance riders will be in action over the two days with last year’s EuroTour podium finishers – the reigning champion Thomas Favolini from France, leading Spanish racer Jordi Thomas Jimenez and the UK’s Joe Harvey – all in the starting line-up, together with Alex Barret who triumphed in La Seyne-sur-Mer in 2018. Sponsored by Experience Kissimmee, four-times UK champion Phil Pope is this season racing in both Europe and the United States, whilst Experience Kissimmee team rider Elliot Cable will be competing in the Yamaha Cup competition.

The next event in the P1 AquaX European calendar will be at Colwyn Bay in North Wales on the weekend of June 8-9, when the Sprint class will be included.

EX/EXR CUP

The Yamaha EX/EXR Cup is a standalone competition that will run within the P1 AquaX and Jetcross championships at race events in Western Europe and the United Kingdom and be open to the owners of EX and EXR WaveRunners purchased in 2019 through the authorised Yamaha WaveRunner dealer network. Entry to the Cup will be free and also enable the riders to compete in the AquaX and Jetcross classes. Each event in the Yamaha series will operate as a separate Cup competition with trophies being presented on the final day of the race weekend.

The Cup is will be held over a P1 race weekend and will comprise either 3 or 4 individual races where competitors will score points for each race. The competitor with the most points at the end of the weekend will be the winner and take home the Cup. No points will be carried forward to the next round.
